Mission & Goals

The main goal for SSMS Student Council is to lead, unify, and represent our school.

We collaboratively empower our campus by creating new opportunities that will benefit our community.

Officers and roles

-Our Student Council is run by student officers who are eligible to participate. These are their roles, responsibilities, and requirements.

 

President (elected from current 7th graders.)

Duties

  • In collaboration with a sponsor, they must create a school-year long agenda for activities.

  • Presides over all Student Council meetings.

  • Represents Student Council during public occasions, student council events, and etc.

 

Vice-President (elected from current 7th graders.)

Duties

  • Assist the President.

  • Preside at meetings in the absence of the President.

  • Represent the Student Council at committee meetings.

 

Secretary (open to ALL students, 6-8, who meet candidate eligibility.)

Duties

  • Compile and organize meetings.

  • Maintain and distribute contact information for members of the board.

  • Provide directions, notices, and the agenda of meetings (see more information at the end of the page.)

  • Coordinate any public relations for StuCo.

  • Perform any other duties as delegated by the Executive Board of Officers.

 

Parliamentarian (open to ALL students, 6-8, who meet candidate eligibility.)

Duties

  • Organizational Expert on "Roberts Rule of Order" (see more information at the end of the page.)

  • In collaboration with President and Advisor, will update the website and google classroom. Also, will manage other media sources.

  • Perform any other duties as delegated by the Executive Board of Officers.

  • Review the meeting agenda and provide recommendations that will maximize the benefits of "Roberts Rule of Order"

 

 

Eligibility to hold Office:

-Student Council Officers and Representatives must maintain a 75 average or better in all courses to remain a member.

-Report Cards must be presented to the Advisor for review and verification.

-Members who fail to maintain grades will be placed as a non-voting member on probation for one grading term. If the student fails to improve their grade by the next grading period, this will result in an automatic suspension from Student Council.

 

 

OTHER Student Council Positions

Drugs, Alcohol, Safety, and Health (DASH) Committee

-Help promote awareness about the 4 topics. Also, prepares one new project per month.

Environment and Energy Committee

-Help promote awareness about the 2 topics. Also, prepare one new project per month.

Pride and Patriotism 

-Assist in school functions, new student orientations, open house, assemblies, etc.

Staff Appreciation Committee

-Create one new project per month celebrating SSMS's staff.

Agenda will include all or some of the following:

  1. Call to Order

  2. Roll Call

  3. Reading and approval of minutes

  4. Reports of other officers

  5. Committee Reports

  6. Action Items

  7. Announcements

  8. Adjournment

 

Parliamentarian/R.R.O. Procedure Tips:

(If you want to... Say this instead)

Introduce business to the group for consideration... "I move to..."

Indicate that another member would like to consider the motion... "I second"

Alter motion as it relates to the subject presented in the main motion... "I move to amend the motion..."

Further investigate or have someone study in more depth... "I move to refer to committee."

Postpone until later in the meeting or until the next one... "I move to table this motion."

Stop debate and call for a vote... "I move the previous question."

Verify by hand, standing or roll call, a voice vote... "I call for a division."

Close meeting... "I move to adjourn."
